Manu Bruynseraede (°1969 Antwerp, BE) paints, performs, writes, exhibits and translates the poetry of Charles Bukowski (English to Dutch).
Manu Bruynseraede’s great uncle René Bruynseraede was a painter, conservator of Museum of Design (Ghent, BE) and director of Academy of Fine Arts (Ghent, BE).
Manu Bruynseraede got a university degree on Dutch and English language and literature in Belgium and the UK, promoted on a “Eureka” translation by Edgar Allan Poe, published 4 books, staged two theatre plays in Hamburg (GE) and is founding member of an outsider art studio. January 2010 he started building a mythological creature made of human teeth extractions.
Until the age of 18, Manu Bruynseraede lived the life of a prince in a normal family, in a house with a one acre garden. During his university years he was slowly compelled, with the false promises of bad punk comedy theatre, to choose a lesser existence. He then entered a world of pain. During the 20 years that followed, Manu Bruynseraede lived a life among extreme violence, low class poverty, heavy drinking and drug abuse, madness and crime; he never seemed to be able to escape.
But he did. He completely recovered and today Manu Bruynseraede still works.
